Keith Glass Band Straddles Swamp Pop And Motown In “Stepping On My Blues”
JUNO and Canadian Country Music Award-winning guitarist and songwriter Keith Glass releases the second single to go with the full-length album “Different World” out May 6th, 2022.
For Immediate Release - Ottawa, ON, 2022 - Canadian guitarist, composer, Canadian Country Award and JUNO Award-winning musician Keith Glass (Prairie Oyster, Lynn Miles) mastered the art of playing the side person a long time ago, so to hear him front and centre on his new album Different World is a sonic treat to fans old and new. Fans can purchase or stream Stepping On My Blues and the full album “Different World” on May 6th, 2022. Media can stream and download the album at stumprecords.com
Like all of Keith Glass Band’s albums, Different World features brilliant songwriting, and raw, groovy instrumental performances from some of Ottawa’s finest players. Longtime collaborator (dating back to high school and subsequently early Prairie Oyster) Alistair Dennett on drums - as well as the jaw harp that kicks off Stepping On My Blues - along with bassist Mike Turenne form the solid rhythmic foundation that is the platform for Glass to deliver his timeless melodies and layers of guitar tones that draw from his deep array of influences spanning rock, country, blues & soul. Guitars abound of the acoustic & electric, 12-string and baritone varieties, all played with the skill of an operator who has spent a lifetime on the stage. Steve Trecarten’s organ swells colour in all the lines that the band lays out and his saxophone soars above on solos, but every bit of lead playing complements and serves the song and overall band sound. Frank Scanga, Rick Rangno, and Paul Adjeleian drop in to expand the horn section on ‘Soul Sister’ to powerhouse Motown levels.
“Different World” was recorded in Ottawa, ON at Audio Valley Recording with Steve Foley. Through technology and ingenuity, the band was able to get the tracks recorded and mixed both in-studio and remotely in the midst of provincial lockdowns. The album opens with Something to Nothing, a slow burning blues inflected track about the inevitable march of time featuring rumbling baritone guitar.
Soulful guitars and organs anchor lament about the lingering power of bitter memories in Can’t Blame Me. Plaintive harmonies and acoustic strumming anchor the hopeful ballad Come Along about redemption. The first and title single Different World finds the band contemplating a new way forward over a timeless rock groove sprinkled with Monkees-esque organ riffs. In Stepping on My Blues, the second single from the full-length album, a swampy blues number opens with a jaw harp solo before the band settles into a laid back groove with a quiet intensity mirroring the lyrical tendency to see trouble around every corner. The rest of the album is full of world-class songwriting, soulful guitars, superb arrangements, and deep grooves.

More About Keith Glass Band: An award-winning singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and founding member of Prairie Oyster - often cited as the country’s foremost roots/country band - Keith has earned much critical acclaim, including multiple Juno and CCMA awards, and toured extensively in Canada, the U.S. and Europe over a career that has spanned almost four decades. In 2008, he was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame for his work with Prairie Oyster, and is a recipient of a SOCAN Songwriter’s Lifetime Achievement Award
Prairie Oyster was a household name through the music industry boom of the nineties. When the band hung up their hats, Keith took time to focus on his family, set up his own recording studio, and enjoy the pace of rural Ontario life.
Glass was primarily performing as a solo act or backing up talent such as Lynn Miles, when high school chum (and original Prairie Oyster drummer) Alistair Dennett moved a stone’s throw away. After a nearly 30-year hiatus, the two started playing music together again, and the Keith Glass Band was formed around this rekindled musical friendship.
A celebratory release concert taking place in Keith's former hometown of Perth, Ontario on Friday, May 6th at the Studio Theatre.
